Customized Training and ConsultationO’Neill and Associates is available to provide customized training and technical assistance to agencies serving individuals with developmental disabilities. From providing training to an individual to organizing a statewide conference, the staff at O’Neill and Associates has 100+ years of combined experience delivering training and consultation tailored to meet customer needs. In addition to our four full time staff members, O’Neill and Associates maintains a list of over 100 expert contractors who we hire to complete specific training and consultation requests. Current ProjectsClark County ’s Technical Assistance ProjectUnder contract with Clark County since 1999, O’Neill and Associates has provided a staff person, Paula Johnson, who works in Clark County . The primary focus of this contract is to develop public and private sector employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Results of this contract include:
WorkSource Renton ProjectThe King County Developmental Disabilities Program has contracted with O’Neill and Associates since July 2001 to be a resource for persons with developmental disabilities at the WorkSource Renton, which is a “One Stop”. King County pays for a full time staff person to take advantage of the employment opportunities available at the WorkSource and through other worksource partners. A key component of this project includes educating the WorkSource and their partners about the skills and abilities of persons with developmental disabilities and supporting them to include these individuals in WorkSource services. The project also provides outreach by promoting and educating the community, including schools, on the resources available at WorkSource Renton. Project outcomes include:
Accessing Heath Care and Human Services ProjectIn July 2002, O’Neill and Associates was awarded a US Department of Labor Grant through Oregon Health Science University. The Project addresses the scarcity of healthcare workers by targeting a diverse workforce that includes people with disabilities. The three year project provides training dollars and staff support to enhance the capacity of the WorkSource system to assist at least 45 individuals experiencing a range of disabilities to access training and education programs that will lead to unsubsidized employment in health care positions. O’Neill and Associates contracts with King County Work Training for a staff person housed at WorkSource Renton and also supports the project via the current O’Neill and Associates staff member Lyn Andrews who is located there. Experience1980 - Present Contracts with the Division of Developmental Disabilities to provide statewide technical assistance and training to Division staff, counties, county and state-funded vendors, persons with developmental disabilities, their families and advocates. 1982 - 1987 Planned and implemented the first six annual statewide Ellensburg employment conferences 1985 - 1987 Contracted with the Washington Initiative for Supported Employment to design and execute statewide training series for employment specialists 1987 - 1990 Awarded grant to found the National Leadership Institute on Supported Employment which trained over 300 persons in 5 day training sessions to implement supported employment in their respective states. These participants included Congresspersons and their staffs, State directors and staff of Vocational Rehabilitation and Developmental Disabilities, statewide project staff who were directly involved in administering federal supported employment grants, parent/advocacy organizations and employers. 1989 - 1992 Awarded Federal demonstration grant to train supported employment vendors and employers how to recruit, train and utilize natural supports in the workplace. 1992 - Present Contract with King County Developmental Disabilities Program to provide job development and technical assistance/training to public and private sector employers. These employers have included:
To date, over 300 persons with developmental disabilities have received jobs under this contract, which specifically trains coworkers, supervisors and managers how to support persons with developmental disabilities in their places of business. 1997 - 1999 Contracted with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to develop 50 jobs for persons with developmental disabilities in the city of Seattle and to train their work units and managers how to support persons with developmental disabilities in the workplace. 1998 – Present Contract with King County Developmental Disabilities Program to provide training, conferences and on-going technical assistance in the following areas:
